Panthers complete first season sweep over Morehouse since 2013

For the second time this season and the first time since 2013, the Clark Atlanta Panthers (21-4, 15-4 SIAC) completed the season sweep over the Morehouse Maroon Tigers 68-65 on Saturday afternoon inside Forbes Arena. With the win, Clark Atlanta improves to 21-4 overall and 15-4 in conference play. The Panthers are now in first place in the SIAC East Division.

Shemani Fuller led the charge with a double-double performance as he scored a team-high 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the win. Chris Martin chipped in 12 points, while Andrew Stewart scored 10 points for the Panthers. Kharye Cayne also notched a double-double performance with a season-high 10 blocks and 10 rebounds to pace the Panthers. The junior currently leads the conference in blocks with a total of 88 for an average of 3.5 per game.

Both teams posted a very competitive first half, but the Maroon Tigers held a 35-32 advantage at the end of the first half. Clark Atlanta shot 37.8% from the field while Morehouse shot 31.8 percent in the first half.

It was the Maroon Tiger who held most of the second half’s momentum after jumping out to an 11-point lead at the 15:52 mark. The Panthers battled back to stifle that momentum after Jalen NeSmith knocked down a jumper with 10 minutes to play to cut the margin down to two (49-47).

With just under 10 minutes to play Andrew Stewart scored his eighth point of the day to knot the score at 49-all. Morehouse went back in front, but the Panthers continued to fight back as Chris Martin tied the score at 56 with a made-jumper at the 6:49 mark in the first half.

The Panthers outscored the Maroon Tigers 12-9 down the stretch to secure their first season sweep over the Maroon Tigers since 2013.

Clark Atlanta won the paint-scoring battle by a 38-22 margin while also grabbing a season-high 52 rebounds as a team.
